Product Overview

This Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara Double-Sided Thangka Pendant is a fully hand-painted Tibetan thangka, housed in an exquisitely crafted gilded copper Ghau (amulet) box. Both the front and back are hand-painted, forming a complete devotional composition that unites the main deity (Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara) with a Four-Directional Mandala (四方坛城).

In Tibetan Vajrayāna tradition, this combination represents the integration of compassion and wisdom within a protected sacred field, making it especially suitable as a portable thangka for long-term practice, meditation, or reverent daily wear.

Front: Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig)

Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara is the supreme embodiment of great compassion in Tibetan Buddhism and one of the most widely practiced bodhisattvas.

Iconography & Symbolism

  • Four arms symbolize the Four Immeasurables: loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity

  • Hands holding the wish-fulfilling jewel (Mani) express the union of wisdom and skillful means, and the arising of bodhicitta

  • White body signifies intrinsic purity and clarity of mind

  • White lotus & crystal mala represent freedom from defilement and continuous liberation of beings

Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara is traditionally regarded as the protector of Tibet, and devotion to this form is closely associated with cultivating altruism, emotional balance, and inner peace.

Back: Four-Directional Mandala (四方坛城)

The reverse side features a fully hand-painted Four-Directional Mandala, a core symbol in Vajrayāna Buddhism.

Mandala Meaning

  • Represents the pure Buddha realm and a perfectly ordered awakened universe

  • The four directions symbolize stability, balance, and complete spiritual protection

  • Mandala walls and concentric geometry reflect the practitioner’s transformation from ordinary perception to awakened awareness

When combined with Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara as the central deity, the mandala functions as a sacred container for practice, reinforcing both meditative focus and inner purification.

Combined Spiritual Significance

In Tibetan Vajrayāna practice, Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara and the Four-Directional Mandala are often visualized together:

  • Compassion (Avalokiteshvara) acts as the motivating force

  • Wisdom and structure (Mandala) provide stability and protection

  • Together, they support:

    • Transformation of greed, anger, and ignorance

    • Cultivation of bodhicitta and ethical clarity

    • A stable foundation for meditation and daily mindfulness

This pendant serves as a portable sacred field, rather than a promise of guaranteed results.

  • Chinese Zodiac: Rat

  • Western Zodiac Signs: Cancer & Capricorn
