Product Overview

This exceptional Vairocana Buddha (Great Sun Buddha) pendant is created in the refined tradition of Rebgong Cui Thangka —a distinguished branch of Rebgong thangka art celebrated for its deep mineral greens and layered cosmic tones.

Hand-painted using traditional mineral pigments and mounted in a 925 silver casing, this piece belongs to a limited Guardian Collection, presented with a gift box and a collectible certificate. It is designed for collectors and practitioners seeking both artistic depth and cultural authenticity.

Who Is Vairocana Buddha

Vairocana Buddha—also known as Mahavairocana, Birocana, or Nampar Nangdze—is regarded as the supreme, central Buddha in Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism.

  • He is the principal deity of both the Vajradhatu and Garbhadhatu Mandalas, forming the doctrinal core of esoteric Buddhism.

  • Vairocana represents the ultimate nature of reality, cosmic order, and universal law, often described as the source of all enlightened wisdom.

  • Iconographically, he is commonly shown seated in full meditation posture, embodying perfect balance and clarity.

  • As one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas, Vairocana is traditionally associated as the guardian Buddha for Goat and Monkey, as well as the Western zodiac signs Leo and Aquarius.

Rebgong Cui Thangka & Intangible Cultural Heritage

Rebgong Thangka originates from Rebgong (Tongren, Qinghai) and is officially recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of China.

Cui Thangka is a highly refined sub-style within the Rebgong tradition, distinguished by:

  • Dominant use of mineral green and lapis-blue tones, symbolizing the vastness of space and the purity of enlightened awareness

  • Complex layered pigment techniques, requiring exceptional control and long maturation time

  • A visual language that blends cosmic symbolism with disciplined iconography

This pendant reflects the highest principles of Rebgong Cui Thangka—where color, structure, and symbolism merge into a calm yet powerful visual presence.

Artistic Symbolism & Visual Language

  • Form like empty space: layered lapis-blue and mineral green tones evoke the boundless nature of the cosmos

  • Universe within a single stroke: fine gold powder forms star-like spirals around sacred Sanskrit elements

  • Five Wisdom Crown motifs: cinnabar lines accented with gold reference the Vajradhatu mandala system

Together, these elements express Dharmadhatu Wisdom—the all-encompassing awareness embodied by Vairocana Buddha.

Materials & Craftsmanship

  • Hand-painted using natural mineral pigments

  • Multi-layer gold powder detailing

  • Traditional Rebgong brush techniques

  • Mounted in a 925 silver casing

  • Each piece is individually completed and visually unique
